Computed Tomography (CT) scanning is a rapid, sophisticated diagnostic examination that utilizes x-rays and computers. A CT scan allows the radiologist to characterize the location and full extent of different abnormalities or diseases within your body. During CT imaging, the x-ray source rotates around the patient. Each rotation produces multiple, cross-sectional "slices," like the slices in a loaf of bread. These images are far superior in detail than standard x-rays and greatly enhance a radiologist's diagnostic ability.
Westfield Imaging Center employs the state-of-the-art, multi-slice Siemens SOMATOM Emotion. With one breath hold, greater patient coverage is possible with thinner slices and higher spatial resolution; thereby giving us the ability to acquire higher quality images in significantly less time. These high resolution images provide the radiologist with unsurpassed detail and quality.
This CT scanner features a wide open gantry for easy patient access. The scanner utilizes sophisticated technology to minimize possible radiation exposure (Ultra Fast Ceramic Detectors and real-time current modulation).
Our CT scanner features unparalleled reconstruction rates which allow the radiologist to manipulate and reconstruct images in multiple planes and create sharp 3-dimensional images. The SOMATOM Emotion utilizes Revolutionary Software for Medical Imaging (Syngo).
In contrast to conventional CT, which images the body slice by slice, our multi-slice SOMATOM Emotion CT acquires data continuously as the patient travels through the gantry.
For patients, this translates into speed and diagnostic detail. A scan of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis can be performed in seconds during a single breath-hold. Previously, the same scan would have taken approximately an hour.
For physicians, this advanced design provides higher resolution, resulting in clearer images for more accurate diagnosis.
The Patient Friendly and Painless Scan
In addition to clinical superiority, our new CT system is patient-friendly. Physicians can acquire diagnostic CT images from this non-invasive, painless scan. Plus, the system's unique, open design allows our staff to easily interact with patients during the exam, preventing the claustrophobic effect that an enclosed gantry can have on some patients. The SOMATOM Emotion CT scanner features an easy access (56 cm/22 inch) and wide open gantry (70 cn/27.6 inch).
Westfield Imaging Center has been accredited for CT by the American College of Radiology.
